I'll say out loud what the group chat's been screaming: there is one basketball in Philadelphia and now six mouths — Embiid, LeBron, Jaylen Brown, Maxey, Edgecombe, Simons. Somebody eats; everybody else starves. The room already has Embiid sliding toward the sixth round — nobody trusts the minutes or the knee — and a 41-year-old LeBron chasing one more ring is not fixing your rebounds. Draft the leftovers on some other roster.

The order for Oct 18 is set. Glass Factory (Dwayne Patterson) drew the 1.1; Brooklyn MuTONEbo (Antonio Anderson) takes the two; and — naturally — Greek Freak, now co-piloted by new-money partner Dan Dapelo, landed at three, a result he'll insist was rigged for him and against him at the same time. NEW RULE, AND IT'S A BIG ONE. For the first time in league history, Baller's Only voted to allow draft-pick trading — which means the desk no longer waits for the season to open. Somebody's rebuild is going to flip a top pick for a win-now bag before a single game tips, and somebody is going to hate themselves for it by November. I have never been busier. THE DESK HAS BEEN BUSY. Headline of the offseason: Greek Freak (Aris Karapidakis) is back — and not alone. He returns in a co-governing seat with Dan Dapelo, and the rumor mill says it's a money play: DD floats the financial superstructure, the Greek supplies the sweat equity. Elsewhere, rookie On Point takes the reins at Gimmie The Loot and Champagne Campaign (Jason Mungin, 3–17) is out. The room is full again — all fourteen seats spoken for, right on time for the Oct 18 draft.

Welcome back, Greek Freak. We missed you — truly. We missed the complaints most of all: the rigged waivers, the trades the committee is supposedly out to block, and the all-time classic — the week he swears the earthquake adjourned his games and robbed him of a full slate of points. The man reads every box score like a legal brief. The league is better with him in it — if only because someone has to file the appeals.

Everyone tells you to fade rookies. Not this class. AJ Dybantsa (the #1 pick) is a 20-and-7 wing they're calling a top-50 fantasy guy by Christmas; Cameron Boozer put up 22.5 & 10.2 in college and rebounds in his sleep; Darryn Peterson hunts steals and drills threes. Draft the future in the middle rounds — or watch someone else do it.

REAL BALL, REAL MOVES. The NBA offseason reshuffled the deck for your October draft: Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami (Milwaukee hauls back Herro, Jaquez, Ware, Jakučionis and a mountain of picks), Ja Morant to Portland, and LaMelo Ball to Minnesota. Three franchise engines, three new homes. Tear up last year's cheat sheet.

Everyone's busy grading the trade. I'll say it plain: Miami putting Giannis next to Andrew Wiggins (fresh 3‑year deal) and Tim Hardaway Jr. is the scariest frontcourt in basketball — and Milwaukee just signed up for a five‑year rebuild in one afternoon. Draft the Heat. Fade the Bucks.

The story of this era isn't a dynasty — it's a door that keeps not opening. Ladis dropped a 17–3, +322 monster in 2025 and cut the nets; in 2026 he went 16–4 and watched someone else do it. Astoria Hoops keep printing 16–4s into an empty case. And Jamel keeps proving the only season that counts is the one that ends in a bracket.

Do not let the Astoria Professors sneak out the back. Ioannis Ladis — the defending champion — went 16–4 and bowed out FIFTH. Same record as the runner-up, half the league between them and a ring. A heist, in reverse.

I have been SAYING THIS. Astoria Hoops went 16–4 — best record in the league, second straight year at 16–4. Rings to show for it? Zero. Mike Petridis keeps building the finest regular-season team money can't cash. The banner says otherwise.
